Part 2 of our Assessing Access Series, when a student is learning to use AT/AAC and its access, the journey is critical. This is not a destination nor is it a simple or easy process. Instead, like reading and writing, it is supposed to be fun, exciting, but challenging. Remember when a student is not able to speak easily, nor demonstrate independent mobility, the tasks become even more complex. However, recognizing how to teach and support both the student and the adults on this journey (of learning access and AT/AAC within the activity) will be shared. 

Three Learning objectives: 
1. The participant will be able to define the term “access” within the context of task engagement and AAC use. 
2. The participant will be able to identify at least 2 characteristics of two different forms of access, e.g. eye gaze and 2 switch scanning. 
3. The participant will be able to identify 3 physical characteristics of an “active postural control“ position in their students with complex bodies when engaged in scanning with their AT/AAC devices.
