Services Provided by the HI Program

Services Provided by the HI Program

Assistance to districts in the rural and remote portions of the state is provided both on and off site.

  • Staff training through on-site and state wide in-services related to
    best practices for educating students with deafness or hearing impairments:

    • Manual Communication
    • Functional and Proper Use of Amplification Systems
    • Inclusionary Strategies
    • Communication and Language Development
    • Transition Planning
  • Assistance to districts in classroom design, and procedures specifically
    for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Assistance to districts in coordinating the use of interpreters, educational
    interpreting techniques, protocol and procedures, and adaptation of the
    regular curriculum.
  • Information and Resources on hearing impairments through the agency
    and assistive technology lending libraries, and other national resources.
  • Coordination of appropriate ancillary services such as speech therapy,
    audiological services, psycho-educational evaluations, assistive technology,
    and special medical clinics (e.g., ENT, Cleft Palate, etc.).
  • Assistance to the district with appropriate functional, formal and
    informal assessments using the language system most appropriate for the
    student.
