What is an Education Specialist?

EDUCATION SPECIALIST: Under the supervision of the program administrator, the education/training specialist is responsible for providing technical assistance to school districts with students who experience low incidence disabilities. Technical assistance may include functional assessments, consultation in regard to the student’s IEP, inservice training, and other help as needed in order to assist the district in implementing an appropriate instructional program for the student. This individual must be willing to travel extensively in rural/remote Alaska.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in education with an emphasis in low incidence, significant disabilities OR a bachelor’s degree and suitable experience may be accepted in lieu of the master’s degree.
